Written in 1979 after an incident on a trip my old housemate Adelia Kearney and I took to spend Christmas at her parents\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 home in Montrose, Colorado. My dog Gopher got hit by a Bronco during a stop at a park in Durango, Colorado. <\/em><\/p>\n

It all started in Durango when my dog got hit,
\nWe took him to the vet, and we thought that was it;
\nBut he wasn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t hurt bad, so we got back in the car,
\nWhen we started seein\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 signs for The Cowboy Bar.<\/p>\n

Now it hadn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t been a weekend of any satisfaction,
\nSo we drove around the lake, lookin\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 for some action;
\nWe missed a couple turns, but we hadn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t gone far,
\nBefore we arrived at The Cowboy Bar.<\/p>\n

The Cowboy Bar don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t like long hair,
\nYou\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re only gonna see real cowboys there,
\nSo remove your spurs, and don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t talk a lot,
\n\u00e2\u20ac\u02dcCause I sat on a stool where somebody got shot!<\/em><\/p>\n

Soon we started talkin\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 to a boy from Chicago,
\nWho said there was a party down the road we should go to;
\nSo we drank some more beers to \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Your Cheatin\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 Heart,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d
\nAnd we all said goodbye to that Cowboy Bar.<\/p>\n

There were people there from Hobbs and North Carolina,
\nAnd the dope and the daiquiris couldn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t be finer;
\nSo we listened to the music and the thunder and the rain,
\nAnd, except for my dog, nobody felt any pain!<\/p>\n

So, if you ain\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t got nothin\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 better to do with your time,
\nDrive up to Durango and follow the signs;
\nTuck your hair in your collar, lock your joints in the car,
\nOr you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll never get away from that Cowboy Bar.<\/p>\n
