{"id":154,"date":"2007-01-18T16:30:24","date_gmt":"2007-01-19T00:30:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kathygrossman.com\/writing\/2007\/01\/road-runnin-fool\/"},"modified":"2007-01-18T16:37:31","modified_gmt":"2007-01-19T00:37:31","slug":"road-runnin-fool","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kathygrossman.com\/writing\/2007\/01\/road-runnin-fool\/","title":{"rendered":"Road Runnin&#8217; Fool"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Written around 1978 in Albuquerque<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I was born in Tucumcari, wen to school in T or C,<br \/>\nMy folks moved to Artesia, so I hitched to the Duke City;<br \/>\nDid some gamblin\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 in Portales, Santa Rosa, and Raton,<br \/>\nMet a man in Bernalillo, ran away to Farmington.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Got picked up in Tularosa by a long-hair from Socorro,<br \/>\nHad some Coors in Alamagordo, slept it off in Espanola.<\/p>\n<p>CHORUS:<\/p>\n<p><em>I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m a New Mexico road-runnin, fun-lovin, six-gunnin\u00e2\u20ac\u2122,<br \/>\nI\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m a New Mexico road-runnin\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 fool.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Drank tequila in Plactias with a Roswell friend of mine,<br \/>\nMet some bikers down at Okie\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s,* had ourselves a real good time;<br \/>\nTook the scenic route by Elephant Butte and saw old Smokey\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s grave,**<br \/>\nHitchhiked back to Taos, went down to Carlsbad to see their cave.<\/p>\n<p>CHORUS<\/p>\n<p>Took a class down in Las Cruces, dropped out and went to Hobbs,<br \/>\nGot tired of Silver City, went to Belen to do odd jobs;<br \/>\nGot arrested in Clines Corners for a check I passed in Grants;<br \/>\nPosted bond and skipped to Clovis, I escaped with just my pants.<\/p>\n<p>CHORUS<\/p>\n<p>While crashing in Corrales, a Clayton cowboy said,<br \/>\n\u00e2\u20ac\u0153If you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve seen so much of New Mexico, Buddy, how come you ain\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t dead?\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>CHORUS<\/p>\n<p>*   Okie\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s was a rough bar in Albuquerque.
