Mommy on the phone<br \/>\n. . . until Daddy came home from work.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->When I was a teenager, forever was a pimple<br \/>\n. . . until summer vacation<br \/>\n. . . the walk home from high school<br \/>\n. . . my senior year.<\/p>\n<p>When I was living on my own, forever was finding a job<br \/>\n. . . living in a trailer park<br \/>\n. . . typing for my boss.<\/p>\n<p>When I worked at a school, forever was Wednesday teachers&#8217; meetings<br \/>\n. . . until Christmas vacation<br \/>\n. . . writing report cards<br \/>\n. . . finding a nice guy.<\/p>\n<p>When I got married, forever was until I got pregnant<br \/>\n. . . my husband&#8217;s graveyard shifts<br \/>\n. . . qualifying for a home loan.<\/p>\n<p>When I became a mother, forever was my eighth month<br \/>\n. . . until my milk came in<br \/>\n. . . my babies learning to walk<br \/>\n. . . how long they nursed<br \/>\n. . . until I slept through the night.<\/p>\n<p>And now my scariest forever looks down at me<br \/>\nMy little babies in tall, teenage bodies<br \/>\n. . . racing to be all grown up<br \/>\nforever.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Originally published in LLL of Western Pennsylvania&#8217;s PennsyLLL Points West, Spring 1999 When I was a girl, forever was until my fourth birthday . . .
